Badge Firmware & Assembly Instructions

When we decided to once again do an electronic badge this year, I wanted to challenge the badge designers to do something that nearly no conference badge has done before, and that would make it ACCESSIBLE. Most badges require significant knowledge in hardware and software programming in order to truly interact with the device. So we decided to use the RaspberryPi Zero-W platform because of its versatility and ease of use.

This year we are even allowing more experienced hardware hackers to interface with the badge using built-in functions. We could not be more excited about having something around your neck that you can use not just during the conference, but long after the conference is over. The Raspberry Pi Zero-W platform can be used in thousands of applications.

Badge Specs:

  • Main PCB is 5.7” Wide by 5” Tall.

  • Super NES Controller Layout Buttons
  • 2x Status LED indicators (reserved)
  • Raspberry Pi Zero Wireless
  • 1Ghz single-core CPU
  • 512MB RAM

  • 802.11 b/g/n wireless LAN
  • Bluetooth 4.1 - Low energy
  • 16GB uSD Card (Class 10)

How we are planning on using the badge during the conference is still a closely guarded secret. I can tell you that our plans are ambitious and the badge development team is working hard to make our plans come together.
