Crack the Password Returns for year 5!

The Crack The Password Competition is all about teaching people good password management by learning the techniques and tricks hackers use to crack passwords! The competition has been designed for all skill levels from n00b to l33t cracker. You do not need any prior experience or even a GPU to compete and have fun. All challenges have been carefully designed to be compeleted with only a modern laptop, although having a GPU certainly won’t hurt. In previous years, we’ve had several teams participate without prior experience and still have a blast. But fear not if you are a cracking guru—there will still be plenty of expert-level challenges to keep you busy!

This year we are proud to be able to support hashlist submissions again through a custom CTF platform. Some challenges will incorporate lists of hashed passwords and you will be rewarded the more you can crack.

Everyone, SAINTCON attendee or not, is invited and encouraged to play!

CONTEST TIMELINE

The competition will run for 60 hours (2 & ½ days)

BEGINS on Tuesday, Oct 19th, at 1:00pm MDT (7:00pm UTC)
CONCLUDES on Friday, Oct 22nd, at 1:00am MDT (7:00am UTC)

PRIZES AND AWARDS

Prizes Prizes will be awarded to the top on-site teams! Teams can consist of any number of players, but prizes will be shared between players. Keep an eye on this page or our Twitter for updates and announcements.

PASSWORD CRACKING BOOTH

Come by the Password Cracking Table to learn about everything passwords! We’ll be bringing our cracking rigs again this year, so stop by to play around with them and see them in action! We plan on having lots of demos available to teach people password cracking/extraction tools and techniques.

MINIBADGE

Minibadges will be available to anybody on-site who can demonstrate they know the password cracking basics. If you’ve never used hashcat before, come by the table and we’ll be happy to teach you. The original password cracking minibadges will be awarded to those who compete in Crack The Password and don’t already have one.
