Home is where we build the best labs.

Home Labs is a community of IT professionals and hobbyists who sharpen their skills for their $dayjob while building cool stuff at home.

This community will be a space where you can talk about projects you are working on, work on – or better yet submit – some lab guides of cool solutions you have built, check out awesome demos, and join in with your fellow dumpster-diving hardware enthusiasts.

Everything you need to know…

First and foremost this is a community. Derived from a SAINTCON talk in 2019, it has grown to a large following of hardware and software enthusiasts, hackers, recyclers, coders, network people, and pretty much everything in-between. We have folks who have a single raspberry pi (if you can get a hold of one) all the way up to full racks with 220V power.

The crown-jewel of the community is the community guides that are maintained by the community itself. These step-by-step guides allow users to build the neat solutions on display in the community space at home. All while learning new skills such as infrastructure as code, containers, Secures Access Service Edge (SASE), Home Automation, and more. Of course, we will have plenty of home lab hardware, software, and automation on display for inspiration (or mockery)

Have a question about a particular piece of hardware? There is likely someone here in the space to answer it for you. Want to build an awesome scale-out NAS? We have suggestions. Curious why certain hardware is cheap on the used market, and others can’t be given away? We’ve probably bought both and regretted at least one of those choices.

What should I bring?

The only requirement is that you bring yourself and your curiosity. For the best experience and more participation in the community bring a laptop with you for participation in our activities and hands-on labs.
