Breaking in, and getting back out in an effort to leave no trace.

Welcome to the Vault, the premier physical penetration test challenge at SaintCon! If you have a knack for bypassing doors, picking locks and subverting security systems, then this is the ultimate challenge for you. The Vault offers a unique experience where participants attempt to overcome doors and safes of varying degrees of difficulty, aiming to score as many points as possible before the conference comes to a close.

Redesigned from the ground up two years ago, the Vault has undergone a transformative evolution. Previously following a linear design, the challenge has now been revamped to embrace a more openstructure. This new design allows multiple teams of competitors to engage in the challenge simultaneously, heightening the excitement and fostering a spirit of healthy competition.

The Vault presents participants with a series of doors, all externally facing, which allow contestants to approach any door they would like to make an attempt to bypass. Each door poses a unique challenge, testing the competitors’ skills, creativity, and problem-solving abilities. The Vault doors include hardware that is both commodity or consumer grade along with hardware seen in secure facilities.

Everything you need to know…

To succeed in the Vault, participants must demonstrate proficiency in circumventing physical security measures, utilizing their technical expertise, intuition, and teamwork. By employing a blend of traditional methods, such as lock picking and safe cracking, alongside cutting-edge technologies, contestants can navigate the intricate puzzle-like nature of each door, unlocking its secrets and accumulating valuable points along the way. Contestants both new to seasoned will find challenges suited to their experience at the Vault. The Vault contest is a spectator sport, every door is viewable for the entire contestant hall to observe.

So, if you are ready to immerse yourself in the thrilling world of physical penetration testing and relish the challenge of outsmarting security systems, the Vault at SaintCon awaits. Step inside, embrace the excitement, and test your mettle as you strive to unlock victory and claim the title of the ultimate door-cracking master!

Each team will be given ONE RFID tag assigned to your team. This RFID tag is used for scoring. Every challenge at the Vault has a yellow RFID box which, when teams complete a challenge, will scan their RFID tag on the box to ‘score’ that door. Every door is worth a set number of points and the doors will change every day of the conference, meaning you can come back each day and score more points. Teams no longer need to schedule time to compete, if a door is available, a team may make an attempt. There are a few things to keep note of:
Destructive entry methods are not permitted.
Each challenge door is externally facing and can be approached at any time.

Once inside, there is a reader; scan your RFID tag against the reader, and your team receives the points.

Note: The reader locks out after the first scan and must be reset along with the door. The lockout prevents another team from trying to be sneaky and grab points after your team’s entry before the room is reset.
Note: There is nothing inside the rooms, no other doors, no additional lockboxes, so no need to linger.
Note: A door can only be scored once.
Last year, our Safe Cracking walls saw heavy traffic. We will be expanding this portion of our event this year to allow for additional contestants to compete.

In summary, these changes have been put in place to ensure everyone has a chance to interact with the Vault contest regardless of their skill level.
